Vasadiskò is an Icelandic word meaning "walkman", its literal translation being "the record in your pocket". It is also the title given to the album of "home made" electronic music that I composed and produced especially for the eponymous exhibition that opened on June 1st 2006 at agnés b activités in Paris. This unusual musical object, which oscillates between atmospheric electro-pop and ambient, is part of a multidisciplinary and immersive installation that housed a series of events and performances.
The CD, conceived as a multiple pressed at 2000 copies, is insidiously deposited in several record stores according to a parasitic strategy of dissemination. Indeed, it has no market value, its bar code is false, and it is not referenced on any existing label. This album benefits and diverts the codes relative to the marketing of launching product met within the musical industries since its operation of launching is in fact an art exhibition. It blurs the tracks between work of art and commercial product, and the lambda consumer is "invited" so to speak to go "steal" the CD, to put it in his pocket with impunity in the record stores in which I introduced them in all discretion. The product in question has no commercial value, it simply exists as an ersatz CD even though it contains music. The Vasadiskò album is a product that has been hijacked and a reflection on the diffusion of music itself at a time when the music industry did not look kindly on the arrival of MP3, which was going to bring about a dematerialization of musical supports, and a freedom of sharing and diffusion but also of creations. Most of the industries didn't see coming the huge revolution that it was going to generate. The practice of sharing was accused of piracy. The Internet has shaken up a lot of things and instead of accompanying this movement most of them got scared. The album that was produced in the early 2000s is a personal reflection of all this. For me, as a nomadic artist and composer, it was a real freedom to be able to exchange and also create wherever I wanted. Some tracks were recorded on top of a volcano in Iceland or in my room. It took several years to set up this project which was being refined in the heart of this revolution.

C'est aussi le titre donné à l'album de musique électronique « home made » que j’ai composé et produit spécialement à l'occasion de l’exposition éponyme qui a ouvert ses portes le 1er juin 2006 chez agnés b activités à Paris. Cet objet musical insolite, qui oscille entre electro-pop atmosphérique et ambient, s’intègre dans une installation pluridisciplinaire et immersive qui abrita une série d’événements et de performances.

En effet, il n’a aucune valeur marchande, son code barre est faux, et il n’est référencé sur aucun label existant. Cet album bénéficie et détourne les codes relatifs au marketing de lancement produit rencontré au sein des industries musicales puisque son opération de lancement est en l'occurence une exposition d’art. Il brouille les pistes entre oeuvre d'art et produit commercial, et le consommateur lambda est “invité” pour ainsi dire à aller “voler” le CD, le mettre dans sa poche en toute impunité dans les magasins de disques dans lesquels je les ai introduits en toute discrétion. Le produit en question n’a aucune valeur commerciale, il existe simplement comme un ersatz de CD même si il contient de la musique. L’album Vasadiskò est un produit détourné et une reflexion sur la diffusion même de la musique a une époque ou l’industrie musicale ne voyait pas d’un bon oeil l’arrivée du MP3 qui allait engendré une dematerialisation des supports musicaux, et une liberté de partage et de diffusion mais aussi de crèations. La plupart des industries n’ont pas su voir venir l’énorme révolution que cela allait engendrer. On a accusé la pratique du partage de piratage. Internet a bousculé beaucoup de choses et au lieu d’accompagner ce mouvement la plupart ont pris peur. L’album qui a été produit au debut des années 2000 est une réflexion personnelle de tout ca. Pour ma part, en tant que artiste nomade et compositeur, ce fut une vraie liberté de pouvoir échanger et aussi créer ou bon me semble. Certains morceaux ont été enregistré au sommet d’un volcan en Islande ou encore dans ma chambre. Il a fallut plusieurs années pour mettre en place ce projet qui se peaufinait au coeur même de cette révolution.
